The Ideal Woman is a Cartoon

Confession- when I saw the movie 'Who Framed Roger Rabbit' I wanted to be Jessica Rabbit so badly my teeth hurt.   She was beautiful, she had perfect hair and eye makeup.   Her voice was gorgeous, she had legs for miles- and when she entered a room every eye was on her.   As I grew up I realized that I actually did not want to be Jessica Rabbit after all.   Mostly because she is an animated character.   In hindsight, rewatching this she was much hotter in my memory than in 'reality' and a lot of the heat came from the vibe she gave to the other characters, not so much the way she was drawn, although that didn't hurt of course. However, there is no denying the 'something' that she has- even in all her cartoon glory there is a spark.

Intrigued by the idea of a real life Jessica Rabbit, I started browsing YouTube, certain I would find pageants and drag queens dressed up as her- which I did.   What I did not expect to find was this:

Of course, I had to keep watching all the other videos that followed- I think I lost hours of time I will never get back but here is the most interesting one of a live person doing Jessica Rabbit make up:

Nicki Minaj 'Does the Creep' on 'SNL'

With her character-driven, accent-tinged rhymes and over-the-top attitude and costumes, color us less than surprised that musical guest Nicki Minaj proved herself to be an able actress on last night's "Saturday Night Live" (Jan. 29).

Musical guest Minaj appeared in two sketches, in addition to her two performed singles, "Right Thru Me" and "Moment 4 Life." Clips of all are below, but allow us to point to "The Creep," a Lonely Island Digital Short on which Nicki made her mark. Nerd-dressed Nicki raps about creeping on boys in the locker room, "ogling and agling." We know that it's you usually having to fend off oglers, Nicki, so kudos for turning it around. (You can buy the track from "The Creep" skit on iTunes, too.)

Video: "The Creep," SNL Digital Short with Nicki Minaj, 1/29/11

And speaking of ogling, Nicki's other sketch found castmates fixated on -- but of course -- her famous backside. In the "Bride of Blackenstein" skit, in which she is created as a bride for Keenan Thompson's Black Frankenstein character, "SNL" host Jesse Eisenberg comments: "I'm sure the swelling in her backside will go down soon." Keenan wants just the opposite, but she puts him in his place. Mmhmm!

Christopher Nolan: 'Dark Knight Rises' shoots in May

Dear Mr. Nolan,
I originally watched your Dark Knight movie on a crummy laptop (and it was a very bad copy) and wasn't really impressed.   The I saw the movie again in the theater- and it blew my socks off.   Heath Ledger of course overshadows everyone else because of his tragic untimely death- but there was a brilliance in each character and without the Ledger drama this movie would still have made headlines for the body of work.   Having said that, I know there are detractors and critics.   Look, I'm not a comic geek- I just like good movies and stories.   I have read comics, but I cannot tell who is from Marvel and who is from DC Comics (and for the record, the xbox Mortal Combat game that mixes the two have made it so I will NEVER get it straight!).   I liked Christian Bale's portrayal of a darker, depressed Wayne.   Michael Caine is a phenomenal Alfred.   AARON ECKHART- no words necessary.   (Actually, a few words- HELLO HE SHOULD HAVE BEEN CAST AS CAPTAIN AMERICA!!! Or Mark Valley).   Not ahuge Maggie Gyllenhaal fan but no sweat, at least she can act!   Really my only complaint is that you smashed a Lamborghini.   I literally cringed as I saw it in the trailers and I might have cried a bit when I saw the actual scene.

The Lost Boys...and other Randomness

When I first started this blog, in 2007, it was about chronicling my adventures for myself.   I figured if there were bits and pieces of it that appealed to anyone else, that was a bonus.   After a while it morphed into a review of everything on tv, and award shows- but then I stopped watching tv.   Definitely hampers my ability to review shows when I am no longer actively watching anything current!   I started watching old shows and movies on Hulu- and still don't have a tv now.   Everything I watch comes to me from Hulu or Netflix (I finally caved and signed up).   In addition to all of these details, there is the fact that I am a ridiculous insomniac.   It doesn't matter if I have been awake the night before and the entire day, once the sun goes down something inside of me clicks and I am awake.

To fill the empty hours when most people are regaining their strength and resting their bodies, I started creating queues of movies and shows to watch.   At a certain point my Hulu lineup alone had over 300 items- mostly 90+ minute movies.   I realized I was spending more time watching life than living it.   Deciding that wouldn't do, I curtailed my viewing time dramatically and tailored my 'must see' shows severely.   I love 'Chuck' but after a few season of Sarah loving Chuck, Chuck loving Sarah, Chuck being a good spy, Chuck screwing up as a spy, family drama and Nicole Ritchie cameos, I have cut it from the list. (However, I will continue to rock the black and white Converse kicks since that preceded my love of the show!).   Another one that hit the curb- Fringe.   God knows I love watching Olivia & Co. deal with the supernatural.   Peter (Josh Jackson) is a wonderful character, and I have said it before- his father reminds me of my father-in-law, so I retain a certain soft spot for him.   But how many times can they discuss the other world and the odd strangers and William Bell?   I love the show, but it is one I will either watch all at once when it is over in a few years, or not at all.

So, that brings me to today.   For starters, while I like posting news and up to the minute updates regarding the world, celebrity and music- not to mention fashion and beauty...it is exhausting.   The hit counts and traffic to my site are great, but for every couple hundred clicks I only make a penny...my time has got to be worth more than that!   I am going to go back to original content, and I will try to post a collection of cool links every few days or so.   This isn't about getting my site to number one- it's about documenting my thoughts and ideas for me.   You are welcome to come along for the ride- and I welcome your thoughts and comments as well.   I'd appreciate it if they could be kept clean (don't make me be the bad word police) and no racism/hatred of any kind will be tolerated...I believe in your right to freedom of speech as much as anyone but I exercise that right as well and limit your ability to spread negativity on something I endorse.

Tonight I finally watched Avatar.   I have had it sitting on my dresser for almost three weeks.   I'm not sure what kept me from going ahead and watching it- I just felt like committing to watching a 2.5 hour movie was not something I wanted to do- ironic since some nights I will watch 4-5 hours of shows online.   The point is- setting out with the purpose of watching something for that long is different than starting a new show every hour for four hours straight....it's really about intent!   Avatar is amazing.   I know I am over a year late on this one but WOW.   James Cameron, I apologize- you were most definitely robbed!   I saw Hurt Locker a few weeks ago- are you kidding me?   It consisted of sand, soldiers, guns...follow the wires, diffuse the bomb, run...BOOM....repeat.   I was not impressed, I did not like it- and I love Jeremy Renner but WTF?   How did that beat out AVATAR?   Note to self:   Never piss off an ex who can then go on to compete against you in your chosen profession.   Wow.

I titled this post The Lost Boys because I just finished watching that too...but now I will save it and talk about how interesting it is to watch that movie for the first time so many years after it was made.   I will leave you with one last thought/idea.  Do you think there is something symbolic about the fact that Joel Schumacher chose to have a giant Jim Morrison poster hanging on the wall in the vampires lair?   I have the answer- but you have to check my next post for that!

Lea Michele vs Dianna Agron @ 2011 SAG

Ok, here is a prime example of two gorgeous stunning popular starlets on the red carpet at 2011 SAG Awards. One is a slam dunk home run hit, the other is wahhh wahhh wahhhhh...
Photo Gallery: SAG Awards Fashion Trend: Belted Gowns
Oh honey no.   What have you done?   I know you want the Hollywood Foreign Press and your newly found peers to take you seriously but SERIOUSLY?   The dress is matronly, hits you in the oddest calf spot ever and the bow is odd for the rest of the gown (apologies in advance to the designer- this would have been pretty on a 50 year old star, not a young twenty something).   The haor is too severe along with the severity of the dress and the shoes might be cute but they are chunky and weight down the already heavy ensemble.   The eyes are too dark and if you are going to go there, then GIT and spice it up with a brother lip.   Or maybe some jewels?   A necklace would have helped, maybe.   Dianna is stunning- this outfit is not.

Sizzling, sexy, sparkling, sultry...I could keep going but why ruin a good thing?   I like the entire thing- could have agreed to a sparkly shiny dangly roundy clutch thingy but I am not complaining.
The only two criticisms I have is that A) she needed to change the hair a tiny bit- it looks a bit rough, tousled waves would have been prettier and B) this is not an ORIGINAL look, it has been done umpteen times- BUT she did it WELL so it's a win

Henry Cavill Cast as Superman in Zack Snyder Film

So congrats goes out to Mr. Cavill for getting cast.   I predict screaming fanboys and teenage girls swarming you at the next Comic Con.   One teeny tiny suggestion, if you are perhaps open to it, would be to start working out now.   I mean it, get HUGE.   My sources tell me that one of the reasons Brandon Routh tanked as Superman, despite his physical similarities and hotness, was that he just did not buff up enough.   Now, could they fake it and put you in a sculpted rubber suit?   Sure, but why not go for the real thing?   Trust me- chicks dig it....or guys, whatever...
Looking forward!

Henry Cavill, the star of Showtime's "The Tudors," has been cast as iconic superhero Superman in a film to be directed by Zack Snyder, Warner Bros. Pictures and Legendary Pictures confirmed in a statement Jan. 30.
"In the pantheon of superheroes, Superman is the most recognized and revered character of all time, and I am honored to be a part of his return to the big screen," Snyder said. "I also join Warner Bros., Legendary and the producers in saying how excited we are about the casting of Henry. He is the perfect choice to don the cape and 'S' shield."
Cavill will be seen later this year playing Greek warrior Theseus in director Tarsem Singh's action picture "Immortals," and opposite Bruce Willis and Sigourney Weaver in the thriller "The Cold Light of Day."
The 27-year-old actor was reportedly on the shortlist for "Superman Returns" when McG was to direct it, but when Bryan Singer took over the project he went with Brandon Routh instead.

Death toll in Egypt's protests tops 100

(Reuters) - More than 100 people have been killed during anti-government protests that have swept Egypt, according to a Reuters tally of reports from medical sources, hospitals and witnesses.

There was no official figure, and the real figure may be very different, given the confusion on the streets.

On Saturday in Beni Suef, south of Cairo, police shot dead 17 people trying to attack two police stations and eight people were killed during protests. Eight others were killed in clashes when prisoners tried to escape from Abu Zaabal prison in Cairo.

Some 68 deaths were reported killed in Cairo, Suez and Alexandria during Friday's protests.

Before then, security sources had said at least six people, including a police officer, had been killed since the protests started on Tuesday.

On Saturday, medical sources told Reuters around 2,000 people had been wounded throughout the country, however with more protests erupting, that number was almost certain to rise.

The sources were unable to specify whether they were police or protesters.

Egypt Jail Break: 700 Prisoners Escape South Of Cairo

(Reuters) - Egyptians armed with guns, sticks, and blades have formed vigilante groups to defend their homes from looters after police disappeared from the streets following days of violent protests. Banks, junctions and important buildings previously guarded by the police and state security were left abandoned on Saturday and civilians have quickly stepped in to fill the void.

"There are no police to be found anywhere," said Ghadeer, 23, from an upscale neighbourhood. "Doormen and young boys from their neighbourhoods are standing outside holding sticks, razors and other weapons to prevent people from coming in." She added: "The community is working together to stop this and protect ourselves."

Police withdrew from the streets when the army was sent in to take over security in Cairo. Witnesses have since seen mobs storming supermarkets, commercial centres, banks, private property and government buildings in Cairo and elsewhere. Egyptians have called for army intervention to bring back law and order. On Saturday, many protesters changed: "No to plundering and no to destruction." [ID:nLDE70S02E]

Cab Stuck in Snow Goes Up in Flames (video)

This cab driver just can't catch a break.
After seeing his taxi erupt in flames, the driver of a cab that exploded on the Upper East Side was issued a ticket and summons for impeding traffic.
From the New York Post:
A cabby who found himself marooned in the relentless snow early yesterday at Second Avenue and 71st Street pulled an all-too-common maneuver: Hit the gas until you're free.
But when the driver did that, his car caught fire and then exploded.
The FDNY extinguished the fire at 3:10 a.m. At 5:20 a.m., the NYPD slapped the driver with a ticket after a tow truck didn't arrive quickly enough to remove the vehicle.
"After waiting two and a half hours at the location, the officers issued a summons," a police source said. "These officers were taken away from their emergency duties to baby-sit this car."
Amazingly, this exploding taxi was one of threecabs that caught fire yesterday, all on the Upper East Side.

Did spam text kill a Russian suicide bomber?

A spam message wishing a Russian woman happy new year may very well have killed her, and saved hundreds of intended targets, according to an account by The Telegraph's Moscow correspondent, Andrew Osborn.
The woman, dubbed "The Black Widow," who Russian authorities suspect was part of the same militant group that killed 35 people at Moscow's Domodedovo airport on Monday, was at a house preparing for the attack, which would have occurred on New Year's Eve at Red Square. Instead, the woman's mobile phone, which served as the device's detonator, was activated hours early by a spam message wishing her a happy new year. She was killed, while a man and woman suspected of being accomplices escaped from the house.
Russian security forces told The Telegraph that phones are usually kept off until the last minute for detonation, but in this case, "the terrorists were careless."

Man Found in Trunk of BMW after Car Sale Gone Wrong

Manhattan, NY - The two men met through the Internet, fate and a 2008 BMW. The car was an M3 coupe, a fully loaded speedster with an eight-cylinder engine and an Interlagos Blue Metallic exterior.
The owner, Akeem Ajimotokan, worked in the procurement office at Columbia University. He was the original owner of the car, and he was asking $46,000.
The prospective buyer, identified on a bill of sale found inside the BMW as Barion A. Blake, was an ex-convict with previous arrests for stealing BMWs. He apparently had a different price in mind.

NSFW Stuy Town's Latest Scourge: Snow Art

Let's forget about rent hikes and cleaning bills for the moment and pause to take in this NC-17 scene from Peter Cooper Village, Stuyvesant Town's more upscale enclave between 20th and 23rd Streets. Are we witnessing the return of Haley Joel Osmont to the neighborhood? Our tipster floats the theory:
I woke up this morning to find a mega snow penis in the Peter Cooper Village paddle tennis/bocce ball court. I am not sure if Haley Joel Osment is living in the area, but this was a work of a prodigy. There is little sign of entrance or exit, and the symmetry is outstanding considering it was probably done at night and under the influence--it's like crop circle freaky. Anyway, considering all the problems at PCV/Stuy Town, this provides some levity. I am curious how long this will stay up before Rose Associates figures out the phallic. The good news for any artist is that there is a lovely white blank canvas on the other side of the court.
Paging Fountain Guy. Fountain Guy, your presence is requested at Peter Cooper Village.

Dramatic Bank Robbery, Hostage Situation Ends After Suspect Slips on Ice (Video)

Police in Maryland shot and killed a bank robber today after he slipped while attempting to flee with a teller held hostage at gunpoint. The dramatic shooting was captured live on camera by a local TV news helicopter.   Police officers were on scene at the bank robbery within a minute of the first calls for help. They say the robber was using a female teller as a shield when he left the bank. As the gunman walked with his hostage to the parking lot, surrounded by police, he appeared to slip on a patch of ice.

Diddy Sued for $1 Trillion, Blamed for 9/11

A woman has filed a $1 trillion lawsuit against Diddy (real name: Sean Combs), alleging that he caused 9/11, put her child in the hospital and stole a poker chip worth "100 zillions of dollars."

Valerie Joyce Wilson Turks is seeking a restraining order against the mogul, which a judge denied, but set a hearing for Jan. 31.

Turks believes Diddy, his ex-girlfriend Kim Porter (the mother of their twins) and LAPD brutality victim Rodney King were behind the collapse of the World Trade Center towers, according to court papers obtained by RadarOnline.com.

"[Diddy] went through Kim Porter and Rodney King and knocked down the WTC and then they all came and knocked my children down. Set me up to be on disability and disabled my baby. he put my baby in a wheelchair," Turks writes in her papers.

Turks claims she once dated Diddy, and they have a son together, Cornelius Wilson, 23.

She also says: ""Plus I won a lot of money at the casino in Mississippi and Sean P. Diddy Combs has my chip to my money. I heard he gave it to Gwen Allen to hold but she can not cash it in. I want my chip please help me. it's well worth over 100 zillions of dollars, and my hospital keys. They put me and my baby in the hospital and broke my baby 2 legs and sexual assaulted my children and crushed us."

She's asking for $900 billion dollars in child support, and $100 billion dollars for "loss of income."
