Glee - Dream On a.k.a. IDINA MENZEL IS HER MOM AND NPH!!!!!

Ok, a lot of awesome things happened in this episode and some things I didn't like as well.   You can click on the words 'this episode' in the previous sentence and read the whole plot summary on Wikipedia...I don't have the patience.   I will, however, bullet point my thoughts.

  • NPH (Neil Patrick Harris).   He is such a wonderful character in every show he is in (I am choosing to disregard his 'Harold & Kumar' foray).   He is also extremely talented and I loved hearing him sing...and I hope they keep Brian Ryan around for at least a few episodes.
  • Billy Joel 'Piano Man'.   Ehhh.   Not impressed- I feel like they half-assed it and put it in as an after thought almost- who sings to a jukebox song at a sports bar???
  • Aerosmith 'Dream On'.   Le...gen...wait for it...dary!   I really liked how closely NPH and Mathew Morrison's voices blended.   It was hard to tell when they switched off, except you suddenly saw the other one's mouth moving (And if you want to giggle- watch the ending of the song- yes it was vocally phenomenal, but LOOK AT HOW FUNNY THEY BOTH LOOK!   Why are their tongues hanging out??? Dramatic effect?)
  • Jesse.   Oh Jesse.   I love you and you are making me want to kick you in the nads.   I KNEW YOU WERE GOING TO BETRAY RACHEL SOMEHOW.   It was nice that he came back, until you realize he came back to help Idina (god, I really need to try to remember her character's name already!) tell Rachel who her mother is...
  • Rachel's Mother.   Okay, so...does Rachel know Idina is her mother?   I assume she does since she heard the tape and it ended up a duet with the two of them singing 'I dreamed a Dream' (another amazing blend of voices- and so nice to finally hear Idina singing!).   ***Side point***No, this song is not originally Susan Boyle's!   It is from Les Miserables, the play Shu and NPH audition for in the episode****   But they never actually acknowledge that Idina is her mom, so maybe Rachel now just knows what her mother's voice sounds like???   That opens up the story to have a cool twist- like she overhears a Vocal Adrenaline rehearsal where Idina starts singing and puts two and two together- I can just see her eyes widening as that light bulb lights up- I can  picture her rushing up onstage and joining Idina in a burst of song!   I am glad that the writer's actually listened to the fans and wrote Idina in as her mom- just hope they don't screw it up.   (and once more, BAD Jesse for lying and sneaking the tape into the box for Rachel to find!)
  • Molly Shannon.   Who is she sleeping with on the show to get that part?   Most random bit of casting ever- but hopefully they flesh out her character because she can be funny.   Also, the guy who is at the 'Showtunes Anonymous' meeting with her and NPH played her husband on 'Kath & Kim' and show that was cancelled because no one watched it (but me, thank you Hulu).
  • Artie.   Poor Artie.   I almost cried when he got up out of the chair in the mall and joined the flash mob dance group.   I was trying to decide if the writer's were actually pushing the envelope to tell us that in one day of therapy he learned how to walk and can now dance just as well if not better than Other Asian...or if it was a dream.   Sadly, it was the latter and that was harsh since I actually LOVE 'The Safety Dance' song.   Also, when he tried to walk earlier in the Glee room with Tina using the crutches and he fell and just lay there, I was ready to bawl.   It was a rough week for Artie- even though he finally got to kiss Tina more than once, in the end he had to sing (very well) while watching her and Other Asian dance the final number.
  • Other Asian.   Is it time to start using his character's name yet?   FYI- Mike Chang.   :)
  • Final Song/Dance 'Dream a little Dream of Me'.   So Artie is singing and casting sad puppy dog eyes at Tina while she tap dances with Mike Chang.   The dance itself seemed a little sloppy (or maybe I am super judgmental now because I actually watched this entire season of Dancing with the Stars) but I LOVED the dark background with the starry lights and the pretty blue shirts.   It was a clean aesthetic and really helped emphasize the drama of the last few moments of the show.   Quinn was sweet when she put her hand comfortingly on Artie's shoulder as he sang, and I also noticed she had one hand on her belly, so yes, she is still pregnant (forgive me, it gets confusing).
  • Joss Whedon- he directed this episode of Glee and if you don't know who he is, well you have for sure seen his work- he is the guy behind 'Buffy The Vampire Slayer' and 'The Doll House' among other shows.   One of the reasons you feel closer emotionally to the characters this week is because that is what Joss Whedon does- he connects the audience.   He also helped develop some of the flailing story lines, but sadly no one liners from Brittney.
  • Sue Sylvester.   SHE SLEEPS WITH NPH!!!!!
Until next week.....

A Few More of My Favorite Songs (Feel free to forward to Ryan Murphy so Glee uses them!)

Since Glee has revived the popularity of almost every single song on my playlists, I keep searching through my music thinking of which songs I wish they would cover next...I don't  actually care if anyone thinks this is crazy, but my FAVORITE song of all time is:

While I was looking for this video, I stumbled on another one that makes me absolutely giddy- and it cracks me up that this person (who obviously tweaked the Glee version the make this song) credits GLEE as making the song a hit!   Ouch- ever heard of a little band called JOURNEY and a guy named STEVE PERRY?!?

It seems people really get a kick out of speeding up hit songs.   I stumbled across a treasure trove of chipmunk songs when I was looking for the 'Girls of Rock and Roll' song!

Another song I would to see regain it's hit status is A-ha's 'Take on Me'.   I adore the intro, and for years thought it was written by some wedding singers since it was performed at every religious wedding I ever went to- then I got older and found out it was actually a pop song!   I think the video was very groundbreaking for it's time too.

I have a Top 5 and this next song is definitely in it- More Than a Feeling by Boston- close your eyes and feel the beat...listen to the guitar- definitely one of the best songs ever. (I chose another version because the original music video by Boston had bad acoustics)

And finally, one of my top five songs- Walk Like a Man (Frankie Valli & the Four Seasons).   I dare you to watch the movie 'Heart and Souls' and not love this song- DARE YOU :)

I love the movie so much I went and found it on YouTube for you! (How cute is Robert Downey Jr. here?)

Upcoming Glee Music!!!!

So excited for this week- get ready for all the great music coming up on this week's episode:
Bad Romance (Kurt sounds fierce!)

Poker Face (Rachel does the slow intro the way Gaga does it in concert with the slow piano and FINALLY we get to hear Idina Menzel sing!!!!! I cannot for the life of me figure out how the story line includes them singing this song together- unless it has something to do with Jesse...)

Yay! Puck (and Finn) singing a Kiss song!

Very Happy- another Idina Menzel/Lea Michele duet- 'I Dreamed a Dream' (originally sung by Susan Boyle).   I wonder if the writers listened to the fans and made Idina her birth mother?   This song would kind of fit...

This is called 'Give up the Funk' and it is the first song I am not familiar with!

NEIL PATRICK HARRIS and Matthew Morrison singing 'Dream On' (Aerosmith) I LOVE IT!!!!   I think I read somewhere that NPH comes into the show as Mr Shu's rival or something...

Ultimate 80's Song!!!!! (If you don't recognize it you never watched any brat pack movies and you need to educate yourself STAT!).   Artie rocks it as usual.

And finally 'Loser' by Beck - sung by Finn, Puck and Sandy?   Nice to see him back on the show!

Derek Fisher a.k.a The Janitor

Ok, so I nicknamed Derek Fisher 'the Janitor'.   It is not a put down or derogatory in any way.   Simply put, no matter how badly the Lakers are playing, you can always count on Fisher to clean up after them.  The same way you have a janitor who keeps a facility clean and in good working order, Fisher keeps the Lakers neat and tidy.   As I mentioned in my previous post (LeBron v. Kobe) my best example of Fisher 'cleaning up' was during the Finals last year.   The Magic were about to win Game 4, which would have tied the teams 2-2.   Instead, Fisher managed to sneak in a 3 point shot just seconds before the buzzer, tying the score and bringing it into overtime.   The Lakers went on to win 99-91 against the Magic. (I found a great article that discusses his '0.4 seconds left before the buzzer' habit).

Although he is old by NBA standards, Fisher has proven time and again that he is consistent and can be counted on to play a solid game.   When you team him up with the flash bang of Kobe Bryant, the wingspan of Pau Gasol and the prowess of Lamar Odom (when he is on, he does have off days) it makes for one heck of a game!     I know I am unfair to Ron Artest, because I never give him credit (sorry, I am still getting used to him being on the Lakers, especially after his hilarious hissy fit during the 2009 Finals when he ran off the court like a little kid after Kobe elbowed him in the throat- after  he kept taking cheap shots at Kobe!).  I could list the entire team, but it's not necessary- the main four- Bryant, Fisher, Gasol and Odom are the backbone of this team.   I am not forgetting the other players (Bynum, Farmar, Brown, Morriosn, Mbenga, Powell, Vujacic and Walton) I am just highlighting the ones who form the cohesive center to a phenomenal team.

Kobe may be the stand alone superstar, with his ability to single handedly rack up points, but without his cleanup crew he'd be overwhelmed by opponent offense and never get anywhere.   No team in the NBA is stupid enough to leave him unguarded, so he had to overcome his Achille's Heel (He used to lack the ability to share the ball) and learn to play with a team.   Fisher has never been a flashy player, and he stays under the radar and maintains the calm center that makes up the Lakeshow- and so i fondly refer to him as 'the Janitor' and I hope he understands why.
Derek Fisher - Wikipedia

LeBron v. Kobe

I am a Lakers fan. I get a lot of heat from people when I tell them this, because I did not grow up on the West Coast and there is no earthly reason why I would have gravitated towards that team when I first started getting into basketball, as far as anyone can tell. So I will explain in two simple words: Color Scheme. I picked the Lakers as my team back when I knew nothing about basketball because I liked the purple/yellow combination. By the way, this is also how I chose me favorite football team, the Raiders- I liked their logo and the colors were cool and easy to rep.

Having admitted that my love for this team did not begin with actual athletic prowess or being a fan of a player or anything remotely involving the actual sport itself, I can also now tell you that as a fan I have learned to love the game. I have spent the last few seasons avidly watching the Finals- and I am decent at predicting the outcomes as well. If you doubt me, I was watching the Finals last year and predicted that Derek Fisher would tie the game with a 3 point shot and bring it into overtime so the Lakers could win against Orlando. I can provide an eyewitness who heard me say it, laughed that it wasn't going to happen- and watched as Fisher did just that, with seconds to spare. I can explain my Fisher theory in another post- this is really about the whole Kobe v. LeBron thing anyway. And for you naysayers- I am not a BRYANT fan, I am a LAKER fan- there is a difference. Observe.
I read this article and felt I had to share, since it pretty much mirrors the way I feel about this trumped up rivalry between these two players- LeBron vs. Kobe
There is also a slideshow comparison of how the two measure up against each other.

Don't get me wrong- LeBron is an extremely talented player, with amazing skills and ability. BUT, and I have said this many times, he is still a PUPPY. He has to grow into his talent, the way a puppy grows into it's giant paws. As time progresses, he will finesse his skills and very well could be the next great basketball player. But as of today, he is just not better than Kobe Bryant. What Kobe Bryant has accomplished is amazing, and everyone knows he can single handedly carry his team to a win just by exerting himself and getting points, even if everyone else is slacking. It is the same for LeBron, except that he is EXPECTED to carry his team in every game, because he has no support staff to help him (ok, after this post I will write up my Derek Fisher post because it is necessary to understand why the Lakers are as good as they are).

I find it ironic that Shaq was on the Lakers when Kobe came into his own, and now Shaq is on the Cavs where LeBron is poised to be the next big thing. It will be very interesting to see how LeBron develops as a player - if he can survive the pressure of carrying a team. Right now, he is the sole redeeming factor for the Cavs (and after his most recent game, it is apparent he is feeling the heat). There is speculation that he will end up playing for New York or Brooklyn, but neither of those teams is any better than the Cavs, so he will still be the sole bread winner. I am not dumping on Shaq by the way, but let's face it, he has been a bit distracted since leaving the Lakers, what with his divorce, scandals and TV shows...And just like Kobe carried him towards some of his Finals, he is leaning on LeBron now to carry him to another. Talk about pressure!

It came as no surprise that the Celtics creamed the Cavs. When you have Paul Pierce, Kevin Garnett and Ray Allen playing against LeBron James, I don't care how much talent each one has individually, LeBron is not going to beat the three of them. Even the Lakers lost to them two seasons ago in the Finals! It is just unrealistic. I still bear great resentment towards the Celtics- especially Paul Pierce (he plays scrappy, like he is still playing on a park court with street rules).

Of course I want there to be a showdown between greats- but LeBron is too green to step up to the challenge. Ask me in a few years, if Kobe manages to remain relatively uninjured. If it ever does come down to a showdown between the two, I definitely want to be sitting front and center- it will be one for the books! For now, I will continue to rock the purple and yellow and happily wear my yellow baseball hat with the purple 'X'...much love to Phil Jackson for making my team great!

Glee - Laryngitis

This episode was interesting- it focused solely on the kids story lines and not on the adults at all. I would like to see Mike and Other Asian have some sort of story line, but then again, I also want to find out more about Artie and Tina too, so not a big thing for me. Most of the Glee club kids (aside from Mike and other Asian) have been given a chance to flesh out their characters so far, hopefully it continues. (Also, one day I would really like to meet Rachel's two gay dads!!!)

Puck starts off the show by debuting his newly shaved head. Everyone freaks out and stares at him- even the nerds lose their fear of him! He explains to Santana that his mom found a mole while she was washing his hair and he had to go to the dermatologist to get it checked out- and the doctor shaved his head to get a better look! Santana is bored and tells him she doesn't know if it's because he lost the mohawk or because he's whining but she is totally not attracted to him at the moment.

Rachel secretly tapes the Glee rehearsals to prove to Mr. Shu that not everyone is singing, and then Mr. Shu assigns them the weeks homework- to find a song that represents each of them. Rachel starts off by singing Miley Cyrus 'It's the Climb' and completely blows it! (Admit it, that was PAINFUL to listen to!) Turns out, Rachel has laryngitis. Finn takes her to the doctor and she finds out she actually has tonsillitis and needs to get her tonsils removed. She freaks out because she is scared it could ruin her voice and then what would she do? Also, she explains to Finn that Jesse is on spring break with his Vocal Adrenaline friends, but that she still has feelings for him, so Finn should move on---- and this segues into one of my favorite songs ever!!!

Jessie's Girl (yay!) sung by Finn- and also his chosen song for their weekly assignment. It is hilarious to see him seeing it directly at Rachel and watching her squirm. You can skip right to the scene at 12:10 (yeah, I got smart and started writing down the times of the songs).

So, withh his new loser status due to loss of his mohawk, Puck decides he needs to date Mercedes after the nerds toss him into the dumpster. She absolutely blows him off "You're Top 40 and I'm Rhythm and Blues!"- and therefore at 14:40 he brings in a jazz band and sings his song for the week- The Lady is a Tramp. Mercedes joins him, and throughout you can see the smoke starting to simmer from Santana's ears (which I found odd since wasn't he with Quinn...the girl he got pregnant?!? And didn't Santana just sleep with Finn? Why does she feel she has a right to be possessive?) Also, I know this song is a classic, but if Puck is singing it TO Mercedes, isn't he calling her a tramp? What am I missing? After the song Mercedes approaches Quinn to explain that she likes Puck, and Quinn tells her she has no problem with it, but that he is just using Mercedes for popularity and will hurt her. Quinn also explains the question we have all wondered but that the show, in typical Glee mode, has failed to address- she is now living at Puck's (his mom won't let her eat bacon).

Kurt has been feeling very left out, since his dad keeps taking Finn to sports events and things, so he chooses a MELLENCAMP song (18:48) and decks himself out in flannel and a trucker hat! A little obvious and extreme, but Glee has never tried to be subtle anyway (have we already forgotten the deaf rendition of 'Imagine'?). Brittney walks up to Kurt after he sings and tells him it was hot- then she goes on to tell him she has made out with every guy at school but never tried with him because she thought he was gay, and that she would like to make out with him so she can have a perfect record. She says 'Let me know if you want to tap this' and saunters away...

Rachel is losing her mind because she believes without her voice she is nobody, and when Finn encounters her in the hallway in what looks like pajamas, with her hair in two messy braids and a bowl of cereal he tries to get her to think positively. She replies with:
"I am like Tinkerbell, I need applause to live!!"

Cut to Kurt and Brittney making out in his room, when his dad walks in holding a sign that says 'Do not disturb, I am making out with a girl'. His dad thought it was the first clue to a murder mystery, and Kurt tells him he is having sexual relations with Brittney. His dad pulls him aside and says he was just getting used to the gay thing, but he will support whatever Kurt decides and as he leaves he tells them to be careful, and use protections.
So Brittney asks Kurt:
"Does he mean, like, a burglar alarm?"

(25:24) Mercedes and Santana duet the Brandy/Monica song 'The Boy is Mine'- they even start out by talking on their cell phones while walking next to each other down the hall! The song ends with them exchanging a few pushes and shoves in the Glee room, where Mr. Shu breaks it up. It was nice to finally hear Santana sing! It ends with Santana walking away and shouting back at Mercedes "Enjoy it while it lasts, his hair's already starting to grow back!"

Finn takes Rachel to meet his friend Sean, a football player who got injured and is now paralyzed. He is trying to show her to be grateful for all that she does have, even if that doesn't include her voice. I get the message, but it was awkward to watch.

Puck is back on top now that he dating Mercedes (she is cool because she is a Cheerio) and he resumes throwing nerds into the dumpster- Mercedes gets mad and tells him to stop, but he insists it's the natural order of things. So Mercedes goes to Sue Sylvester and quits the Cheerios.
Sue: "Nobody quits the Cheerios! You either die or I kick you off!"

So Kurt and Brittney are walking down the hallway holding hands and everyone is giving them funny looks (Check out Artie's face). Kurt sees his dad in the hallway again, he is there to take Finn to another 'boys' thing. Kurt is PISSED!
(33:47) He starts singing 'Rose's Turn' and it becomes this giant belted out song with his name behind him on stage in bright P-diddy letters and when it is finished...there is someone clapping. His dad came back. after blowing aFinn off, to make sure Kurt was okay. They talk and his dad tells Kurt to be who he is, not who he thinks he needs to be. (awwww). I love Kurt- but he is wayyy too g=fabulous to be changing who he is, he should stick to singing mind blowing notes and being the chic trendsetter with flawless skin that we have grown to know and adore.

The episode ends with Rachel going back to see Sean, and offering him voice lessons, since she has gotten her voice back. Because of him she has realized that you can be more than one thing. They start singing (42:25) U2's "One"...and then suddenly the Glee club is singing it on stage...and then it fades back to Sean and Rachel singing it. It's still awkward to watch, and although Sean has a good voice, I think he is purposely trying not to sing well so that he can show improvement in later episodes (if he stays on as a character).

Glee seems to thrive on leaving some story lines hanging for a few episodes- like what is happening with Sandy (the fired Glee club teacher)? How about Terry- are her and Mr. Shu divorced? What is Quinn going to do with the baby when it is born? Will we ever get to hear Idina Menzel sing? Who else is totally psyched for Neil Patrick Harris?????
It's ok, I don't mind the suspense because I like knowing the show has more to develop, it keeps things interesting!

Finally, I need to say this- has anyone else picked up on the fact that Finn sings A LOT better than he did for the first half of Season 1? He does a great job on the U2 song and of course, on 'Jessie's Girl'.

Jessie's Girl - Glee

AHHHHH! I received an email with this youtube video on it and freaked out- obviously the song is going to be on Glee tonight- I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!! Cory Monteith does a decent job of it (although it would have been super interesting if Mark Salling a.k.a. Puck had sung it!)

Here are the rest of the songs for tonight, which I'll comment on after I watch the show:

(freaky- Lena Horne just passed away yesterday and this was a song she sang famously)
(Finally a U2 song!!!!)

Forever Young - Jay Z feat. Mr. Hudson

If you don't already know, i am a huge 80's Rock junkie, so when I first heard this song 'Forever Young' on the radio I was happy. I like the original track mixed with Jay Z's signature style. I have never heard of Mr. Hudson before but now I will go look. Enjoy :)

Suggestions for Glee

Ok, last week's episode kind of shoots this idea out of the water, but I had it after the Madonna episode I just waited to post it because there was so much else to discuss.

I thought that Finn should sing my favorite song of all time "Jessie's Girl" by Rick Springfield.
See below:

See- Finn can sing it about Rachel and (wait for it) Jesse! I know, it's perfect.

However, now that Rachel has screwed it up with Jesse I think he will become a real spy for Vocal Adrenaline as revenge. Somewhere I read a post that some fans think it will turn out Jesse is really gay and go after Kurt, which would be fun since Jonathan Groff is actually gay and Kurt needs a boyfriend STAT!

My next suggestion is that the Glee kids record the song 'We Built this City" by Jefferson Starship- and no, there is no matching storyline but it is a fun song and reminds me a little of the song they already did "Jump" so it will be a fun, fast paced performance.

And finally, just because I want to hear Idina Menzel and Lea Michele sing this together:

Like a Prayer - Nick Pitera cover

Not as well done as some of his other videos (usually the vocals are a bit more polished) but still fun to watch and very very good. Nick reminds me of a Disney character himself- a mix between Gaston (Beauty & the Beast) and Aladdin! He also posted his youtube audition for Glee- I hope he does win, he would make a great character on the show!

Glee - Let's get Physical the Sue Sylvester Edition

I feel like there is a vibe in this video between Sue and Olivia...I know they are staring at hot sweaty man flesh in tiny red spandex suits but they seem more into each other. Just saying! (and yes, I liked it- it was a tongue in cheek take on the original video that Olivia herself admits was horrendous because no one wants to look at fat sweaty men working out- even if they do get hot and buff at the end!)

Jonathan Groff - Hair and Spring Awakening

I love him- and he does a really fun performance of hair :)

Jonathan plays Jesse St. James on Glee- with Lea Michele, who costarred with him in 'Spring Awakening'. The play is full of cursing but this one song is so fun and upbeat I posted it anyway, so I guess I should warn you NSFW based on lyrics...

Glee - Bad Reputation

Last weeks episode of Glee was underwhelming for me after the first episode back in months followed by the much hyped 'Madonna' episode. I felt they underutilized Kristen Chenowith completely and didn't like the whole singing in bed will Will thing, although it was pretty to listen to, I felt like a creepy peeping tom. This week, for the first time ever, I felt like the story line followed the pace of a regular show instead of passing by at warp speed. It was oddly nice and disconcerting at the same time since usually i am struggling to follow every second and cannot take my eyes away for a moment or I miss things.

I thought Quinn putting up the 'Glist' was lame, but since it helped promote the 'reputation' storyline and allowed us to see some of the Glee kids trying to be 'bad' by performing Hammertime in the librabry (hammer pants and all!) I will forgive it. She seems to have stalled being pregnant, since her stomache hasn't grown much that i can notice. The Ice Ice Baby song was fun to watch, but why does Mr. Shue always try to rap? They are a little late on reintroducing this song to mainstream again since the hilarious duo of Jedward already did that when they mashed it up with Under Pressure. Go ahead and watch the video- Vanilla Ice makes a cameo and it's hilarious:

Back to Glee, a self confessed 80's lover, most of the songs Glee performs have been in my playlists for it is cool to see that they are getting a chance to make a comeback. Last week they tried to make it more showtuney and I think that risks alienation from both new fans who just started watching for the second half of the season and fans who have been there since the beginning and have come to expect a good mix of pop, rock and 80's.

The Sue Sylvester/Olivia Newton John thing was funny and weird. It is starting to remind me off Will & Grace- remember how everybody wanted to make a special guest appearance on that show? :) I wasn't especially fond of the Emma being mad thing, she is much funnier happy, but I get it and it was necessary in the story line anyway.

I do have one problem- I like Jesse St. James (along with every other female and more than a few males in the US) and I want him to stay a huge part of the show, so it sucks that Rachel messed it up. It does however open the plot to allow that maybe he really did transfer to the school just be near Rachel- but now spurned and heart broken he will start to spy on them after all...I didn't really care about the 'Run Joey Run' song that Rachel performed to trick the three guys into being in her video, but I laughed out loud when I saw Stephen Tobolowski (remember- he was the old Glee coach in the first episodes who got fired) playing her dad in the video.

Finally, I LOVED the end performance of Total Eclipse of the Heart. It has been a favorite song for years, and I really liked the ballet class dancing, and the way it was sung. It is a great song, and they sang it well.

One thing I have noticed and forgotten to mention is that every song they sing, they ALWAYS make it sound the way the original is sung. You can really hear it if you listen to the first soundtrack. Lea Michele sings the Kelly Clarkson song the way Kelly songs it, same with Celine Dion, Jordin Sparks, Rihanna, Wicked, Cabaret...and of course this song. It is not only her, just it is very noticeable when she does it, and I like it. Looking forward to next week- and hoping to finally hear Idina Menzel sing!!!!!

Vintage Lea Michele

Video of 9 year old Lea Michele (who plays Rachel on Glee) singing 'Castle on a Cloud' from Les Miserables.

Miley Cyrus - Can't Tame Me video

I am officially a fan! Miley has finally found herself in this video. It is cheeky, dangerous, edgy and exciting. She was a 'cute' kid but I am certain that now she will take over for the ageing pop queens and rule the genre. She is not copying Britney Spears, as Perez suggests, but rather adapting what Britney did best when she was in her prime and giving it a modern look for this decade. Of course, I am still a Britney fan, but I have to admit- i wasn't one in the 90's when she was first hot, it was only after she collaborated with Madonna that I started to listen to her music and then I began to love her older stuff as well.

To critique the actual video for a moment- it is the first time I couldn't take my eyes off of a Miley performance. From her amazing elaborate costume (the giant wings in the intro were AWESOME) to the 'bird like yet sleek' dance moves...a polished, cohesive performance. Also, I have never seen Miley control an entire dance crew, but she does just that here ans still manages to keep all eyes on her.

This is the start of the next big 'it' thing...and I am looking forward to seeing what else Miley brings our way!

Design Star on HGTV (Season 1) Episode 1- New York Town House

David is my favorite :)

This show was filmed in our house and it is so awesome to be able to watch this episode and see how raw the space was just after we finished building the structure, when it was a blank white box and completely empty space. And yes, the giant Miss Utah was a huge surprise for us too!!!
