Julia Roberts seals her 'Snow White' deal

Remember that scary evil queen in the Disney version of Snow White?   She used to give my sister nightmares when she transformed into the ugly hag- but I always thought she was super cool.   The kind of cool that Angelina Jolie could pull off.   I am happy that Julia Roberts will take on the part- since Brett Ratner is involved (creator of my favorite movie of all time- The Family Man- as well as Rush Hour (all three) and X-Men:The Last Stand) I am pretty sure it will be great.   I do have some hesitation- I mean, has Julia Roberts ever played the villain ever?   I could wiki it but from what I can remember off the top of my head she is always the good guy.   Or at least, the lesser of two evils guy.   Portraying a hooker isn't 'good' exactly, but you know what I mean.   Curious to see how this goes, definitely looking forward to it.

Julia Roberts seals her 'Snow White' deal

Thesp to play the evil queen

Julia Roberts has closed a deal to play the Queen in Relativity Media's untitled "Snow White" feature.
Tarsem Singh is directing the big-screen adaptation of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale.
Production is set to start in April, and the film is scheduled for released on June 29, 2012 -- six months before Universal unveils "Snow White and the Huntsman."
Relativity's version of "Snow White" will eschew the traditional story in favor of a modern retelling that boasts more comedy and adventure. Script finds the heroine teaming up with a gang of seven quarrelsome dwarves to battle her evil stepmother, who has killed Snow White's father and destroyed the kingdom that is rightfully hers.
Melissa Wallack ("Meet Bill") and Jason Keller ("Machine Gun Preacher") wrote the script.
Relativity CEO Ryan Kavanaugh and Brett Ratner are producing with Bernie Goldmann ("300"), while Tucker Tooley will exec produce alongside Jeff Waxman, Tommy Turtle, Jamie Marshall, Josh Pate and John Cheng.
"Julia was our first and only choice to play the Queen," Kavanaugh said in a statement. "She is an icon, and we know that she will make this role her own in a way that no one else could."
Roberts most recently starred in "Eat Pray Love." The Oscar-winning actress next stars opposite Tom Hanks in the Universal dramedy "Larry Crowne."
She is represented by CAA.
